Zaragoza, 29th October – 1st November 2009

¿What is ASI?. That would be the first question.

Maybe the first ASI member should have been Apostle Paul, the “Apostle of Jesus Christ”. He was a self-employed, making tents, who dedicated an important part of his time and resources to the mission commended by Jesus: “And He said to them: Go into all the world and give the good news to everyone.” Mark 16:15.

That is our first goal at ASI Spain.

ASI is an international lay ministry all adventist men and women can join, self-employed, entrepreneurs, supporting ministries, etc… who share that same goal: share Christ on the Marketplace and collaborate on the Mission following apostle Paul’s example.

Every year we gather for our annual convention and this years motto was: Are you part of God’s Big Idea?.

David Cox was the special guest invited as a very well known specialist in “small groups” and church planting.

We also had other important guests as pr. Jesús Calvo (President of the Spanish Union), Ángel Dúo (President of ASI Europe), pr. Eliasib Sánchez (Personal Ministries Leader for the Spanish Union), pr Oscar López (Youth Leader on the Spanish Union), and pr Miguel A. Roig (Dean of the Spanish Adventist Seminar).

The motto of the presentations, “Small Groups – A Second Reformation” encouraged us to be Lay people (God’s people) and Priest (the called ones) as we are all “called” and God’s people. Small groups as a multiplying seed creating new leaders, was the origin of our church and that’s going to be the method to finalize the work to propitiate second Lord’s coming. All presentations were clear and pleasantly translated by pr Oscar López.

Out of the spiritual moments we also had time to talk and share about present time issues like the general adverse economic situation and how to manage the current economical problems on our business activities.

On Friday morning our board presented the administrative situation of our association and the projects for 2010. Three projects were approved by the assembly:

CONÉCTATE 2010 - our youth evangelistic effort on two different cities simultaneously this time.

VIVE - our scholarship program to help youth study at the new School of Evangelism developed by the Adventist Seminar and ASI Spain in Sagunto.

Financial help to support the website “www.jovenes-cristianos.com” managed by one adventist youth from Seville, “Niko”.

On the afternoon ADRA presented their new projects giving away some informative materials and documents.

On Sabbath there was a special program on the conference hall of a famous school in Zaragoza to commemorate ASI 10th Anniversary in Spain. Sabbath School was presented by some students from the School of Evangelism and pr. Miguel Angel Roig, dean of the Adventist Seminar. ASI Spain’s president, Ernesto Dúo, presented to the attendance all the projects for 2010 and a special offering was collected. Up to now, 15.000 € has been collected for those purpose but still much more donations are needed to cover all the financial needs we have to run those projects on 2010.

Pr. David Cox completed the morning worship program with words of encouragement to fulfil the mission and praise the Lord.

During the afternoon there was a special 10th Anniversary Program with testimonies and presentations like “What is ASI?” by Roberto Duo or “10 years of ASI in Spain” conducted by the actual president who handed Bibles to the founder members present.

The president of ASI Europe showed what ASI is doing in other parts of the world and the Personal Ministries Leader of our Union, pr Eliasib Sánchez, spoke about the evangelistic programs developed together with ASI Spain this year giving new materials to the lay speakers of the evangelistic program “New Beginning with Jesus” held in 20 different cities around Spain by ASI members.

All the programs were made pleasant through different musical parts presented by Maria José Gimeno, Angie, Mamen and the masculine group “Agua Viva” who performed some “a capella” spiritual songs.

Finally, Sunday morning arrived and we had to say goodbye after a busy and exhausting weekend full of blessings from our Lord. We thank Him for his guidance and his presence at our convention and for all his mercies that we see every day on our lives as we continue “Sharing Him at the Market Place”.
